Safe traffic routes thanks to SIMODRAIN® drainage pipe systems
A bypass in southern Germany will be over four kilometres in length by the time it has been completed. To reduce the traffic load of the district, construction work on a three-kilometre, twin-tube road tunnel began back in 2015.
Trial operation on two lanes in both directions is due to commence in the second half of 2021. In 2019 the tunnel, which will only be part of the district's traffic-calming project, was provided with SIMONA® PE100 drainage pipes to discharge underground water. To be able to use traffic routes safely and without any restrictions in the long term, drainage systems have to be not only capable of bearing the load but also resistant to fracture.
The system is also exposed to loads caused by the influx of water. For the long-term drainage of roads all water has to be discharged immediately. That is the only way to avoid water infiltration and prevent associated damage and instabilities in the road network. In this respect every application involves very specific requirements.
In close collaboration between SIMONA and the authorities responsible, an extensive search was conducted to identify the most appropriate material. Pipes made of PE and ones made of PP were both tested with various slot geometries. With this individualised consulting service, SIMONA was able to set itself apart from the competition.
SIMODRAIN® pipes and fittings are suitable to comply with the high requirements of the project. Owing to their very smooth interior wall surfaces, SIMODRAIN® pipes achieve excellent discharge capacities (k ≤ 0.01 mm) – perfect protection against incrustation. As a result of the high level of flexibility, the pipes are particularly fracture-resistant and can also be used for high static and dynamic loads.
